LindaLu A 21’ “Handy Billy”, designed by Harry Bryan; customized and built by Geoff Kerr/ Two Daughters Boatworks for owners Bill and Linda Steinfeld of Champlain, NY. Custom features for this family include the deck layout, seating arrangement, interior and exterior trim, playpen cuddy, side wheel steering, oval coaming, under-deck storage fore and aft, the dodger and full mooring/storage cover. The Handy Billy design is based on the work of legendary designer William Hand, particularly boats like Paiute III, which dates to 1912. The originals were very successful launches featuring inboard engines in the 30 hp range. Designer Harry Bryan redrew the low speed, fuel efficient hull in the late 1990’s to take advantage of the quiet efficiency of modern 4-stoke outboard technology. Deep and narrow in comparison to modern planing hulls, Lindalu’s top speed is approximately 15 knots, and at cruising speed her 12 gallon fuel capacity allows her to glide along all day in near silence. This is a sailor’s motor boat. Her motion is smooth, slicing through the water rather than beating her way across it. The quiet of the engine, elegant motion and elegant look combine to make an outing in LindaLu a pleasure. The Handy Billy design is a traditionally constructed wooden boat. While happiest at a mooring or dock during the boating season, the batten seam style of construction is trailerable, and at approx 1000# the boat is easy to launch, recover and tow.
