LCACBS
Board Meeting
The
winter Board meeting was held at 5 PM at the Truex Cullins Conference Room
in Burlington. Woodruff, O’Brien, Munson, Asam, Truex, Bombard, Pfister,
Maffey and Gaylord were in attendance. Woodruff opened the meeting
with thanks to Bill Truex for letting LCACBS use the Conference Room for the
last eight years of winter meetings. We wish Bill all the best in
retirement starting at the end of this month!
Secretary
Grosvenor did not attend, so approval of prior meeting minutes was
postponed.
Woodruff
announced that he will be moving his boating activities to Saranac Lake
where he and Kate will be building a second home on Lake Oseetah
waterfront. Therefore, in October he will not seek a
second term as Chapter President and suggested that Vice President O’Brien
could move up to the Presidency or the board should initiate a search.
Mike
Munson gave the treasurer’s report. The balance is $4,680 which is a
little better than usual for this time of year. The 2007 calendar
project earned a record $530 and the Burlington Boat Show net was
$1,563. The boat building program spent $1,234 so far this year and
will need an additional $5,000 to complete the Chris-Craft kit. The
Board reviewed Mike’s 2006-7 and approved it with an increase to permit
two newsletters per year. We will seek sponsors to offset the boat
project expenses.
Mike
O’Brien said that this year’s 2007 Burlington Boat Show will be a
traditional event as in years past. There were discussions about where
to have the Show in 2008 and it was the feeling of the Board that we should
follow the usual rotation and have the show at Westport. With regards
to the Lake Champlain 400th celebration, George Maffey is on the board of
New York’s Champlain Valley Heritage Network and Mike O’Brien is
active with the Vermont Quad Committee. 2009 will be a busy summer!
Keith
Gaylord reviewed the chapter development program and noted that the ACBS
National survey had similar inputs. Keith will write an article for
the upcoming newsletter. Keith also pointed out that our Chapter is ahead of
the curve with the youth boat building program and that this would be a good
PR opportunity. Mike will prevail on the Chapter’s renowned author,
Amanda Munson, to do an article for the Rudder. Hans has some good
pictures of work in progress.
Hans
Pfister said we sold 113 calendars plus 50 with the Spencer Boat works logo.
Larry Asam reported that the web site has had nearly seven thousand hits,
about 3,000 during the last year alone. The Board agreed with Keith
Gaylord’s suggestion that we pay for any soft ware upgrades Larry might
think appropriate. It would be best if these expenses could be
incurred in the 2007-8 budget year as this year’s budget is already tight
with the kit boat project. Steve Pond said membership renewals were
about normal. Woodruff noted that there is a problem getting timely
information to the President from the National regarding nonrenewal
and new member status.
Myndy
will contact Marselis Parsons and Jack LaDuc to see if they would show their
Fall Cruise photos at the April 28th Plattsburgh meeting. Mike
O’Brien will confirm that we will have a workshop at Turcott Brother’s
Gar Wood shop April 14th.
Meeting
adjourned to the Shanty for dinner at 7 PM
