February 2007 Soundings
Hi All, hope your shop is well heated. This is ice boat weather. Fun?
The February workshop will be on February 10th from ten - noon at
Geof Kerr's boat shop. Lunch will follow, location to be
determined. Bring your partner; this is a coed event!!
In view of the the February 10th workshop, there will be no Board
meeting on February 7th.
Check out the new Rudder. There is an interesting article about the
E-10 ethanol fuel problems. The bottom line is that our fuel systems
are vulnerable because our old gas tanks vent directly to fresh
moisture laden air, whereas our modern cars have a closed system that
does not let much air in. The E-10 readily absorbs moisture which
will settle out into the bottom of the tank. Yikes! I encountered
this problem last summer and it was not fun. The filter clogged
with water and brown crud. Try to avoid E-10 (so far it is sold in
NY but not VT). I am installing a raised fuel pick up in the problem
tank and also adding a gas drain to the Raycor filter.
Plans for the ACBS National Annual meeting September 26 - 29, 2007 at
Lake George are coming together. Page five of the Rudder has the
details. Note that if you want to do the pre-event Hudson River
cruise, you must register for the LOTTERY before February 15th. The
cruise will be limited to thirty boats. Good Luck!
Also, please mark your calendar for The LCACBS Boat Show August 17-18 at the
Burlington Boat House.
See you Saturday, boys & girls. Myndy
