Annual Meeting/Brunch Cruise October 14, 2007
Aboard the Northern Lights
Forty Four persons attended the Lake Champlain Chapter ACBS Annual Meeting
for a brunch cruise aboard the Northern Lights on Sunday, October 14th at noon.
Myndy Woodruff, President called the meeting to order.
Secretary's Minutes
The minutes of last year's annual meeting were approved by a motion made by
Mike Munson and seconded by Ed Bombard.
President's Report
Myndy Woodruff gave thanks to the following persons:
Mike O'Brien for his"vital"work for the chapter and for chairing
the 2006 and 2007 Boat Show.
Ed Bombard, Clem Couture and Bill Truex for their contributions as Board
members.
Myndy then gave thanks to all the members who "stepped up to the
plate."
He announced the election of our chapter's member, Gene Porter as new
International ACBS President.
New members were also welcomed: Anita and Jay Ancel, Judith and Liam English,
and George and Dashka Kurjanowicz.
Treasurer's Report
Mike Munson reported a current balance of $5,428.43 for the fiscal year,
2006-2007. He stated that there is a "comfortable surplus overall."
The proposed budget for 2007-2008 was explained. Both reports were placed on
file.
Motion: Dick Lang moved and Barry Carris seconded the motion that we accept
the Treasurer's report as presented. The motion carried.
Boat Shows
Mike O'Brien was applauded for his success in the 2006 and 2007 boat shows at
the Burlington Waterfront.
George Maffey, Boat Show Chairman for 2008 and 2009 announced the location at
the Westport Marina in Westport, N. Y. He stated the LCACBS Boat Show will be
incorporated into the Town of Westport's Heritage Days.
Web Site
Larry Asam reported that Mike Adams of Charlotte will assist Larry in
updating the web site.
Membership
Steve Pond announced a total of 111 members to date.
Calendar
Hans Pfister reported that the calendar will be out after Thanksgiving. A new
look is being studied for next year's calendar. Larry Asam is now in charge of
the photography for the calendars in digital form.
Youth Program
Mike Munson stated that the Youth Program teaches kids how to prepare and
maintain boats and how to maneuver boats in the water. The two boats used in the
Youth Program are "Miss Ruby" and the Kit Boat. More kids are needed
in this program.

2007 BOAT SHOW AWARDS
October 14, 2007
I’d like to begin with the best of class winners. These are selected by
peer judging of the skippers, with confirmation by the judges committee.
Best of Class for SAIL: “MOONFLEET” Moonfleet is a 1957
Concordia 39 yawl. She was built in Germany by Abeking & Rasmussen.
Moonfleet retains her original name and has been on Lake Champlain for
almost ten years. She is owned by Jan and Mary Jane Rozendaal and is
maintained by Darling’s Boatworks.
Best of Class for OUTBOARD: “OLD TOY TOO” Old Toy Too is a
1958 Lyman 16 ½ foot outboard powered by a contemporary 2000 Mercury 40.
Old Toy Too is owned by Frank and Kay Mehaffey.
Best of Class for CRUISER: “Naulakha” Naulakha is a 1938
ELCO 30’ Marinette model, iowned by Ed and Lois Hacket. Naulakha is home
ported in St. Albans Bay.
Best of Class for UTILITY: “TARA” Tara is a 1965 Century 21’
Coronado. She is powered by the original 300 hp Ford Interceptor, and is
owned by Curt Hennigar.
Best of Class for LAPSTRAKE UTILITY: “TRUE NORTH” True North
is a 1959 Lyman 23’ soft top, powered by the original 195 hp Gray
engine. True NORTH ISA HOME PORTED IN WILLSBORO Bay, and is owned by Gene
Porter and Nancy Garceau.
Best of Class for RUNABOUT: “AGITATOR” Agitator is a 1940
Chris Craft 19’ Custom. She is owned by Myndy and kate Woodruff and has
been restored and maintained by Myndy. She is powered by a 1957 175 hp
Chris Craft MCL engine. Starting this year she will be spending a lot of
time on the Saranac Lakes.
Best of Class for CONTEMPORARY/REPLICA: “JUDITH L” Judith L
is a replica of the Handy Billy design by William Hand, an early 20th
century naval architect. Her lines were drawn by Frank Bryan and she was
built by her owners, Judy and Liam English. She is powered by a 2005 Honda
15 hp outboard.
BEST OF SHOW: This is an award selected by consensus of the judges. We
had little trouble coming to consensus. “GOLDEN YEARS” Golden
Years is a 1913 Mathews Launch powered by a Scripps engine (which may be
original). She is owned by Sam and Jerrie Hoagland and was restored by
Spencer Boatworks.
MOST ORIGINAL/BEST PRESERVED: This is an award sponsored by
International ACBS in keeping with their priority of encouraging the
maintenance of antique and classic vessels as opposed to rebuilding them
with new materials. This year the judges selected “STEELIN’ AWAY”.
Steelin’ Away is a 1951 Steelcraft 28” Express Cruiser. As I
recallthestory, she has been in the same family since the 60s, but was in
storage for a number ofl years before her current caretakers began
refurbishing about five years ago. She is home ported in Port Henry and
owned by Lee and Joanne Moll.
PEOPLES’ CHOICE: This is an award selected by the folks who attend
and participate in our show—visitors, owners, crew, friends, family,
etc. This year the award goes to “FRISBIE” Frisbie is a 1928
Hackercraft Dolphin model built by Hacker in Mount Clemens, Michigan. In
the 1990s she was found in New Jersey, partially restored, having not seen
water for 35 years. She then went to Alexandria Bay where it remained in
storage until 2005 when the current owners purchased her and restored her
with help from Forestport Boat Company. She is owned by Don Lilly and
Linda Baily.
BEST CHRIS CRAFT: This award is sponsored by the Chris Craft owners
association, and is awarded to a boat selected by the judges committee.
This; year the award goes to “GEE WHIZ”, a 1939 Chris Craft 17’
Deluxe runabout powered by the original 95 hp Hercules engine. She is
homeported in Westport, NY, and owned by George Maffey.
BEST LYMAN: This award was sponsored by the Shelburne Shipyard ( a
former Lyman dealer) and is awarded to a boat selected by the Judges
committee. This year the award goes to “ANGIERS”, a 1950 Lyman
18’ Islander owned by Larry and Kim Asam. She is powered by the original
31 hp Gray engine and is homeported in Malletts Bay.
BEST CENTURY: This award is sponsored by the Century Boat Owners
Association and is given each year to a boat selected by the judges. This
year the award goes to ‘Joshua’s Tree”, A 1950 Century 16’
Resorter converted to a gentlemen’s racer by her current owner. She is a
regular participant in our shows and is owned by Steve and Paula L’Ecuyer.
JOHN LADUE AWARD: This award was created in; honor of a founding member
of this chapter to recognize boats that are not only well maintained, but
also used on a regular basis. The winner is selected each year by the
judges committee who agreed on “QUO VADDIS II”. Quo Vaddis II
is a 1968 Chris Craft 40’ Constellation which regularly makes the cruise
up the lake from Canada to participate in our shows, She is owned by Louis
and Sylvie Bergeron.
MERIT AWARDS: Each year the judges committee identify a number of boats
in the show that reflect a noteworthy level of workmanship and
maintenance. This year we awarded four MERIT AWARDS.
A. “CHAMPLAIN”. Champlain is a 1951 Chris Craft 42’
Double Cabin Flying Bridge Cruiser. Following delivery to Clayton, NY,
she spent virtually al of her life on Lake Champlain. Nick Patch and his
crew did a structural rebuild in the late 1980s. A subsequent owner
ordered a major interior renovation that was done under the direction of
her current owner Mark Pedley.
B. “SWEETIE”. Sweetie is a 1956 Chris Craft 22’ Sea Skiff
owned by mark and Linda Snelling She is a regular participant in our
shows, and is frequently seen cruising in and around Shelburne bay.
C. An unnamed Chris Craft 19’ Capri owned by Mike Turner. This was
her first time at our show and was definitely an eye catcher.
D. “RIVENDELL”. Rivendell is a 1955 Lyman 18’ Islander
owned by long time chapter members Ed and Betsy Bouton who purchased her
about three years ago after she had been restored by a previous owner
with guidance from Myndy Woodruff.
Mike Munson was presented a framed photo of his sailboat, Ellida for
"all the hard work over the years for this chapter as Awards Chairman,
Treasurer and Youth Program Chairman."
The Diana and Barry Carris Youth Award
This new award was dedicated to the Carris' and presented to them as a
rotating award to be awarded for the first time next year to a deserving
youth.
President's Award Myndy Woodruff presented this award to Judy Grosvenor
with gratitude for her willing attitude in the chapter.
Hans Pfister presented a framed poster of the boat, Agitator to the owner,
Myndy Woodruff, with praise for excellence as Chapter President.
Pink Elephant award The recipient of this award went to Marselis
Parsons. Ask him!
Hans Pfister announced the LCACBS Potluck Holiday Party to be held at his
home in Waterbury on Saturday, December 8th at 6:00 PM.
The meeting was adjourned by a motion.
