LAKE CHAMPLAIN CHAPTER   ACBS        MARCH 2006 SOUNDING

 Upcoming Events:

March 24 - 26  Mt. Dora, FL Boat Show.  This is a great show with a
big flea market and about an equal mix of alligators and boats.   Club
members can rendezvous at the boat launch ramp at 11 AM daily.

 April 8    10 - 12 AM  Darling's Boatworks, 821 Ferry Rd., Charlotte,
VT  (802)425-2004 NOTE THE DATE CHANGE  Follow the LCT Ferry sign from
Route 7.  Look for Darling's sign on the left after the railroad
track.  There is always a variety of interesting projects and we can
see the restoration progress on Mashnee, Jan Rozendaal's 1902
 Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 30.

THE WINTER WORKSHOP AT JODY LAPHAM'S SHOP WAS FUN AND INTERESTING. BOB MELROSE SHARED HIS CAULKING EXPERTISE AND EVERYONE GOT TO PRACTICE ON JODY'S 1903 LOZIER LAUNCH. IN ANOTHER CORNER THE GEARHEADS TINKERED WITH THE 1905 GRAY MARINE "PUT PUT" ONE LUNGER. THANK YOU JODY!

I attended another class in the School of Hard Knocks. I learned more about the OSHA stickers on my table saw that say a face mask and blade guard are to be used at all times.

About year ago a small block of mahogany flew out of my table saw and hit my tooth. There wasn't any blood and the tooth passed the wiggle test, so I went back to work. Then in November my dentist said the tooth was dead, and now I am in the process of getting an expensive implant. That is when it hurt!

OSHA won't save you from yourself. "Take on the job only after you protect yourself. Don't rely on medical miracles to fix things after the fact". Sinbad

2006 Lake Champlain ACBS Boat Show & Lake Champlain Maritime Festival

The big news for February is that Vermont Life may be doing an article about The Lake Champlain ACBS, perhaps for the Summer 2007 issue. Steve Payne, a contributing editor, met with Mike O?Brien and with Myndy Woodruff to research the article. If Steve?s schedule works out, he plans on attending the April 8th Darling Workshop to meet our members and get a better feel for our passion. Lets hope all goes well, as this would be great press for The Chapter.

The other news is that Linda Snelling has volunteered to head up The Boat Show Registration process. This of course includes registration, registration kits, ballot counting etc. If you would like to help out, please contact Linda or Mike O?Brien. Steve Pond has agreed to head up The Chris Craft Kit Youth Boat Building Program along with Hans and Mike Munson.

The Lake Champlain ACBS proposal has been submitted To Captain Jim Shotwell director of the program. We should hopefully hear something in April. If we are awarded the kit, we would probably start the building process in July. And finally, Hans Pfister has been busy with Parks And Rec getting the vendor regulations and permits for the show. A meeting will be scheduled in March with Parks & Rec just to iron out the details.

March will be a very busy month. We will be meeting with The Key Destination Organizations to set up committees and discuss and agree on their exhibits and demonstrations. We will also be completing the final plans for Button Sales, Festival and Boat Show Program, Festival and Boat Show Poster and finally we hope to firm up the event sponsors.

THE CHAPTER'S LOGO CONTINUES TO EVOLVE. NOTE THAT TWO RINGS HAVE BEEN ADDED TO BRING IT MORE IN LINE THE THE NATIONAL ACBS LOGO. THANK YOU MIKE O'BRIEN.
